The thing that excites me more than Christmas, New Years and a holiday work break combined is the thought of watching Wild Card weekend. Essentially, the Steelers won a playoff game this weekend. For me, the best part is watching the games (Jan. 3 and 4th) that determine who they will play.
A little insight into my viewing habits: when it comes to the Steelers, I am a pessimistic, quiet, nervous fan. So the opportunity to spend a weekend watching teams with everything on-the-line while I have nothing to lose is pure joy.
God, this post is getting Peter Kingy. I'll leave my tips on how to make a delicious Chai Tea Latte (I don't like coffee) for future posts.
- My CBSSportsline Column ran today and I wax poetic on a term I just made up: The HGH Syndorome (Hero/Goat/Hero) in the NFL. You know how NFL players frequently start a year a hero, then become bums, and then become heroes again? I wanted to work in the Dark Knight quote about how you either die a hero or live to see yourself become the villain, but a.) It didn't quite fit and b.) if I misquoted, Dunn would never speak to me again.
- I'm obviously not very popular as a sports writer. How do I know this? Because my most popular column ever was about Christmas Movies -- in BCS format. Note to CBS Commenters: I never saw Bad Santa and I don't want to...get over it!
- Maybe I'm burying the lede here, but Mike Logan reminded me on "The Drive" this afternoon that Dick Lebeau has a tradition of reciting the entire original "Night Before Christmas" to the team, which he has memorized. Apparently, there will be a segment about this on the NFL Countdown on ESPN this weekend. First of all, I would cut off my pinky toe to be there for this tradition. Secondly, it seems like the kind of tradition that loses some luster when you televise it. Thirdly, I would like LeBeau to read me a poem every night before he tucks me in. Is that weird?
- Since I'm suddenly a PR Flack for ESPN, one other programming note. Kenny Mayne will also be doing a parody of "The Greatest Game Ever Played" documentary called "The Worst Game Ever Played" and it is about the Steelers-Dolphins 3-0 Monday Night Game last year. In my head, Mayne jumped the shark like a year ago, but this actually sounds funny. Maybe he can unjump it.

“Essentially, the Steelers won a playoff game this weekend.”
Great Point
Man people really take the New Batman serious….but that movie was the ish and the quote is super real…
I’m incorporating HGH into my vanacular right next to “That’s mighty Republican of You”
The McNabb example really stands out because its fresh, but I damn near forgot about how people where talking down on Mr. 6’5 255 laser rocket arm
Off Subject: I’m glad to see Mr. Bryant get some shine. Before there was Larry, there was Antonio
I will ignore the LeBeau tucking you in ish lol
I don’t know whose wife he slept with but I’m with you on Kenny, he was the MAN when he was on Sports Center regularly, now he for the most part just sucks to me..
Watching him is like seeing the guy who got kicked out of the Five Heartbeats saying “He Still Got It”
Enjoyed the read fam
