Can the Super Bowl Really Cure Hines Ward's Knee?

Somewhere just past the Emerald City is a magical place called Burgher Land. It's a mysterious but wonderful place where the Steelers have a potent offense just waiting to emerge, the Penguins will "get back on track" any day now and, somehow, the damaged ligaments on the inside of Hines Ward's knee will be fine because he "won't miss the Super Bowl".

Thank you, Dr. Ward.

Ward will suit up and he might even be productive. But the idea that he has the ability to tough it out and heal himself in two weeks makes me wary.

But maybe he isn't doing it alone.

He did an interview today on The Drive on ESPN 1250 radio in which he revealed that he purchased a hyperbaric chamber in the offseason, through the advice of his agent, and uses it in his bedroom.

It's becoming more common for athletes to use them, but its just conjures up pictures of Michael Jackson. And that's never a good thing.

For the uninformed (i.e.- me), the chamber is a long wide cylinder used for therapy that pumps in oxygen and the drastic increase of oxygen particle pressure in the body and on the tissue helps heal the body faster. It is often used in attempt to treat people, like miners, who have major injuries.

In case you're as curious as I am, or tweaked your knee in the shower this morning and have some money to blow, they go for about $20K -- and I recommend the Vitaeris 320.

The long and short of it is that Ward -- i.e. Hall of Fame Tight End -- will be a big part of Arians' game plan next Sunday. The Steelers offense will need to produce a few touchdowns and his ability to run, cut, stop and block will be a big part of that.

God speed to the Super Bowl adrenaline and oxygenated tube that will be charging his knee.
