Happy President's Day! It's great to be back in my normal routine... which means not living out of a Hyatt hotel in a strange city. What appears to be the big news I have come back to revolves around the Penguins, which is always fun...
I don't really know for sure if Therrien was the worst man for the job. Rumors have always swirled that he and some key players did not see eye to eye, but are there any coaches in any major sport that is loved by each and every teammate? Well, maybe Tomlin..
The Therrien era should be remembered for taking a group young kids and getting them to game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals. In reality, this season's disaster is what people will recall first. On the same token, you have.. HAVE to shed some blame on Ray Shero for the way the Penguin's season has gone. Word from the prominent Pittsburgh media is that Marion Hossa gave a verbal agreement that he would sign with the Pens.
Great.
But that was a VERBAL deal. You would think a general manager of a team.. of a professional sports team no less, would always have back-up after back-up plans in place in the event a VERBAL deal is not honored.. until it's on paper and the i's are dotted and the t's are crossed, nothing should be taken as official. So what happened was Hossa took a long look at the Pens... and jumped to the team that just defeated him in signing with the Red Wings. Looking at the way both teams are playing, can't say I blame him.
OK, I know what some of you are thinking.. Shero did have a back-up plan.. Miroslav Satan and Ruslan Fedotenko. And go figure, with 25 games left the Pens are in 10th place in the conference and 5 points behind 8th place. Sigh..... The Pens do play today at 2:oo PM, so let's wait and see.
Besides that rant, there is perhaps one of the biggest games of the college basketball season, Pitt/UConn.. this should be an epic battle. Jerome Dyson of the Huskies did just have surgery and unless he is Jesus Christ he will not be playing. DeJuan Blair has his biggest, literally, challenge to date and I am PUMPED... ok, it's been a while.. let's see what I woke up to..
The PG: Dave Molinari reacts to the firing as well..
The PG: Gene Collier looks at something we at the Terrible Blog has been ignoring.. the Duquesne Dukes aren't all that bad.
NHL: Their preview of Pens/Isles today..
ESPN: In a time where professional athletes are being more and more scrutinized for actin' a fool, Marshawn Lynch of the Bills finally takes a stand and acts like adults in the spotlight should... KIDDING! He was just arrested on gun charges.
ModessisHouse: From last week, but still awesome none the less.. James Farrior and Joey Porter still best friends.. still surfing together.
